Wine Cork Necklace
This cork bears the W. C. Fields quote: "What scoundrel stole the cork from my lunch." I ran sterling silver wire through it (it is an unused cork), capped each end with textured copper and steel washers, a copper bead cap, and a piece of sponge coral, and hung it from copper cable chain.
And it's available in my Etsy shop!
This was a fun project, and they'd make great key fobs, too. I'd like to make more!

Red & Green Chainmaille Bracelet
I had so much fun wearing this bracelet over the holidays!
Festive, funky, and I knew no one else had one!
And I love this clasp - a copper toggle ring specially made for this, and colored to match with alcohol inks. Toggle bar made from 16g artistic wire. Artistic wire is so fun to work with - so many beautiful colors!

Holiday Lariat
As I mentioned earlier, despite any evidence here, I have actually been fairly busy designing and creating.
Imagine my delight (and surprise!) when the Photo Fairy, the Download Fairy, and the Editing Fairy paid me a visit yesterday! PF took over 500 photos, and her sisters downloaded and edited all of them. Woohoo! No sign of the Listing Fairy yet, though.
Now I have some projects to share with you - pardon for a few days while these are holiday themed. You're not really tired of the holidays already, are you?
This is a lariat I designed around mid-December. The pretty lampwork peppermints had been for sale in the bead shop for several years, and I started to hope no one would buy them - I love them!
My original plan weave the entire lariat in a red and green spiral stitch, adding the peppermints about 6 inches from each end. But I didn't have anywhere near enough of the beautiful velvet red Czech fire polish beads I was using in the center of the spiral, so I had to come up with plan B.
I found some Czech pressed glass rondelles in green and in clear, some green Czech fire polish beads, and some red Czech pressed glass bicones, and played around with different patterns, and came up with this result. I love it, and am so glad I didn't have enough beads to make a lariat-length spiral, because this was quicker, and more festive, too. In my opinion. Keeping this one!

Book Club
Since November I have been reading voraciously, often more than a novel a day. There are so many great books out there, and it is so fun and easy to get transported to another world! Every time I have a few minutes, or better yet, a few hours, I whip out the iPad and read. I have enough books stored on there to keep me busy for years, but that is a whole 'nother story, so to speak.
On New Year's Day, around 5 AM, I started reading Tim Gunn's Gunn's Golden Rules, What a perfect book to start the New Year! It is so uplifting and inspiring, and thought-provoking. I read all day, eating up Tim's witty prose and anecdotes, especially the behind-the-scenes Project Runway scoop. I am such a Tim Gunn Geek. I finished the book around 10 PM, and felt like I had given myself a wonderful New Year's gift!
These are Tim's rules:
Make it work!
The world owes you . . . Nothing!
Take the high road.
Don't abuse your power -- or surrender it.
Get inspired if it kills you.
Never underestimate Karma.
Niceties are nice.
Physical comfort is overrated.
Talk to me: there's always another side to the story.
Be a good guest or stay home (I won't judge you - I hate parties).
Use technology; don't let it use you.
Don't lose your sense of smell.
Know what to get off your chest and what to take to your grave.
When in Rome . . . I still wouldn't eat monkey brains.
When you need help, get it.
Take risks! Playing it safe is never really safe.
Give back (but know your limits).
Carry on!
He fills each chapter with wonderful, applicable life lessons, and I truly treasure this book!

Life as We Knew It, by Susan Beth Pfeffer
I was able to digitally borrow both of these from my local library (free, free, free!) - if you enjoy reading digital books, you should really check to see if your library has a digital loan system. I have literally "borrowed" hundreds of books this way already, and what could be easier and more affordable?

Isaac Newton and Housework, or Who am I to Argue with the Law?
A body at rest tends to stay at rest; a body in motion tends to stay in motion.
This is a common paraphrasing of Newton's First Law of Motion, which actually states: "The velocity of a body remains constant unless the body is acted upon by an external force."
Who knew that physics could so easily explain why I would rather lie under my warm covers, reading, than clean house? And to think Physics was my least favorite subject (PE ran a close second...)

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
I am going to try to post something here everyday (I know, you are on the edge of your seat!)
Maybe just a simple picture, or a book recommendation, or the story behind one of my designs; no promises, but I am going to try.
Blogger is a user-unfriendly platform, especially if the user is on an iPad (where Blogger will not allow spell-checking, or the embedding of pics), so I have been lax about blogging. And much like my jewelry photo-taking, the more I put it off, the more it piles up, and so when I would finally sit down to blog, the shear volume of information I wanted to share was overwhelming. Few people want to read all that stuff, and I didn't want to plod through the posting, so I trying a new approach. Snippets here and there.
Hope you have a wonderful 2012!
